Nicola Coughlan will reportedly have a major role in the upcoming Doctor Who Christmas special.

Nicola Coughlan will reportedly join The Doctor as his one-off companion in the upcoming Doctor Who 2024 Christmas Special.

The Bridgerton star was confirmed for a guest role on the show late last year and now The Mirror reports that she will be joining Ncuti Gatwa in the TARDIS for a festive adventure.

The newspaper says that the special episode, which was filmed last October, will not feature Millie Gibson as regular companion Ruby Sunday, who is rumoured to be leaving the main show after the conclusion of a two-season story arc during the 2025 series.

Speaking after the episode was shot, showrunner Russell T Davies said: "This has been the most brilliant shoot, with Nicola lighting up the set and bringing joy. From Derry, via Bridgerton, to the TARDIS, it's the trip of a lifetime."

The Mirror also claims that Varada Sethu, who is joining as a second companion for 2025, will make a brief appearance in the 2024 series, which begins this Saturday.
