FIFA's ethics committee investigate Franz Beckenbauer

Franz Beckenbauer is among the list of 11 FIFA committee members that will be under investigation by the governing body's ethics committee.

FIFA's ethics committee has confirmed that Franz Beckenbauer is one of 11 men that it intends to investigate in the latest revelation regarding the corruption scandal that has blighted the governing body of late.

FIFA president Sepp Blatter and UEFA's Michel Platini - both of whom were recently suspended - as well as general secretary Jerome Valcke have also been named on the list of current or former committee members.

However, it is the inclusion of Beckenbauer, who won the World Cup with West Germany both as a player and manager, that is the headline news.

There will also be a case mounted against the president of the Spanish Football Federation Angel Maria Villar Llona.

The reason behind the investigation into those two has not been revealed, but it has been widely reported this afternoon that it is for their conduct during the bidding process for the 2018 and 2022 World Cup.

Worawi Makudi, Jeffrey Webb, Ricardo Teixeira, Amos Adamu, Eugenio Figueredo and Nicolas Leoz are the other men that will be under investigation.
