Huub Stevens does not believe that it is necessary for Schalke to top Group B.

Schalke 04 coach Huub Stevens has said that it does not matter if his side top Group B as several of the big clubs are out of the way anyway.

Stevens said that whoever Schalke draw in the second round, they will just do their best to keep going in the competition.

"We can't draw [group rivals] Arsenal, [or German sides] Bayern and Dortmund anyway so that already move a few out of the way," Sky Sports News quotes Stevens as saying.

"First place would obviously be better, but it's not necessary. We just need to look at ourselves and how we get through our coming games.

"Of course we will try to finish first and we'll see how we play in Montpellier."

Schalke are currently a point ahead of Arsenal at the top of Group B.
