Arsenal's 1-0 defeat at Villa Park on Saturday means that the club have now lost three successive league games against Aston Villa without scoring a goal for the first time in 99 years.

Arsenal's 1-0 defeat at Villa Park on Saturday afternoon means that the Gunners have now lost three successive league games against Aston Villa without scoring a goal for the first time since August 1920-March 1922.

Ollie Watkins scored the only goal of the contest in just the second minute as Mikel Arteta's side lost a second Premier League game in a row, having also gone down 2-1 at Wolverhampton Wanderers on February 2.

The defeat has left the London club down in 10th position in the table, nine points off the top four, and it appears that the team also face a fight to finish in the top seven this term.

Arsenal have now been beaten in three consecutive league matches against Villa without scoring a goal for the first time in 99 years, having suffered a 1-0 loss in the corresponding game last term before going down 3-0 at home to Dean Smith's side at the Emirates Stadium in November.

The Gunners will now be looking to return to winning ways when they host Leeds United on February 14, while they will also take on Benfica in a two-legged Europa League knockout affair later this month.

Arteta's side suffered another injury blow in Saturday's loss to Villa as Thomas Partey was forced off the field in the second half with a muscular problem.
