Late Raul Bobadilla strike proves costly for struggling Eintracht Braunschweig

Eintracht Braunschweig's chances of survival are left in tatters as they lose 1-0 at home to Augsburg in the Bundesliga, courtesy of a late strike from Raul Bobadilla.

Eintracht Braunschweig's chances of survival were left in tatters this afternoon as they lost 1-0 at home to Augsburg in the Bundesliga, courtesy of a late strike from Raul Bobadilla.

Augsburg should have taken the lead early in the first half when Ragnar Klavan wasted his headed chance with a poor effort that went both high and wide of the target.

Kevin Kratz fired off a speculative effort for Braunschweig, but he was denied by Marwin Hitz at the keeper's bottom left corner.

Sascha Molders could have handed the visitors the lead in the second period, but he fired wide despite being free in the centre of the box.

With Hamburger SV losing at the hands of Bayern Munich, Braunschweig pushed for all three points late on to help stave off relegation.

However, they were stung by Bobadilla, who produced a world-class strike from distance in the final few seconds of the game.
