Hoffenheim coach Huub Stevens resigns due to heart problems

Hoffenheim coach Huub Stevens announces that he is being forced to resign because of heart problems.

Hoffenheim coach Huub Stevens has resigned due to heart problems.

The 62-year-old Dutchman revealed at a press conference he had been diagnosed with heart arrhythmias that may need surgery.

He told reporters: "I am very sorry to be leaving the team and the club at such a difficult and challenging time, but I think everyone can understand and appreciate the fact that my health and wellbeing takes priority in making my decision."

Stevens leaves with Hoffenheim level on points with Hannover at the bottom of the Bundesliga, five points adrift of the relegation playoff spot, having won just twice in the league all season.
