England's Steven Gerrard won't take family to Brazil for World Cup

Steven Gerrard says that he will leave his family in England during the World Cup finals in Brazil in the summer.

England captain Steven Gerrard has said that he will not take his wife and kids with him to Brazil for the World Cup finals in the summer.

The 33-year-old Liverpool midfielder believes that his family could be a "distraction", as it was during the 2006 World Cup in Germany.

"I thought it was bit of a distraction in 2006," the Daily Star quotes him as saying. "So in 2010, when I set off for the World Cup, I preferred for my family to be away from me and I could focus on trying to get my form right.

"I will be doing the same again in Brazil. I have got my Facetime and Skype so I can be in touch with them every day. I can be in touch and see what they are doing.

"I think the players are down to make the decisions themselves if they want their families over there. For me, my own personal choice is that I don't like my family there when the tournament is on."

Gerrard has been part of the England setup since 2000.
