Alloa Athletic, Queen of the South share the points in four-goal thriller

Alloa Athletic draw 2-2 against Queen of the South in the Scottish Championship.

Alloa Athletic and Queen of the South picked up a point each courtesy of a 2-2 draw in the Scottish Championship.

It took until the 20th minute for Queen of the South to forge the first chance of the game as Chris Higgins's header missed the target from six yards. Gavin Reilly then missed from a tight angle seven minutes later.

Alloa midfielder Liam Buchanan narrowly missed the right post from long range before Michael Paton saw his shot saved at the other end.

The deadlock was broken in the 39th minute as Ben Gordon headed into the net from an Iain Flannigan corner.

Queens were level shortly after the start of the second half. Kyle Benedictus fouled Daniel Carmichael inside the penalty area and Derek Lyle placed the spot kick into the bottom left corner of the net.

They took the lead just two minutes later, with Mark Millar finding the bottom corner from the left side of the area.

Alloa levelled the scoreline once again in the 65th minute when Buchanan scored from the centre of the penalty area.

Michael Paton came close to regaining his side the lead in the 70th minute, but his shot went narrowly wide of the left post.

Lyle volleyed the ball towards goal from a corner two minutes later, but it was blocked by an Alloa defender.

Millar was sent off in the final minute as Queens saw the match out with 10 men.
